When I finish a ‘single player’ game I take quite some joy in uninstalling it. It’s a right of passage for a game to go from ‘waiting to be played’ to ‘done’ it’s an event akin to carving a notch on a bedpost but more appropriate for younger audiences
I have games on my hard drive that have been ignored while I have waited for them to ‘breathe’ then I have attacked them and in a weekend ploughed them dry (Gemini Rue is next for the ploughing)
There are some games though, that even after my ritualistic breathing/playing period have stayed installed, Battlefield 3 for instance, I have played it to death but its going to be on my hard drive until Battlefield 4 is out (or forever, whatever, I love that game an don’t really mind). This also happens with some single player games. in the case of Minecraft and Team Fortress 2, I will never be done with them, they are just too much fun.
But! – there are those games that have Breathed, then ready for devouring and It’s a good game but its just not worth finishing. The one that has inspired this blog is the entertaining but tiresome ‘Rock of Ages’ its fun, it really is, but then when it carry's on after you fight a dragon (yeah! fighting a dragon!) you have to sigh a little, the game has shown you everything it has to offer but it’s just not enough to make it worth more of your time. Emotionally you have have finished with it but the developers had more. Is it morally acceptable as a gamer to decide that for you the game is over and just put it aside, as a gamer we owe it to ourselves to finish games that aren't bad.
Is the lack of desire to play this game in some way the fault of the development team for not pushing me on with promise of greater ‘lolz’ ?
For now, I’m uninstalling all the games that I ‘feel’ done with, after all you can always re-install later right? – But how many games get a ‘come back’ ?
